OUR STORY
It all started with a spark of inspiration — a simple haircut, an idea, and a dream.
After completing his two years of National Service, our founder, Mustaqiim Abdullah, was uncertain about his future. Around the same time, his partner and now wife, Aqilah, was pursuing a course in hairdressing. Inspired by her passion, Mustaqiim began to wonder if hairstyling could be his path too. One ordinary day, he visited a barbershop for a haircut and unexpectedly found his calling in men's grooming.
From that moment, his journey began. With no formal training, Mustaqiim taught himself through YouTube tutorials, apprenticed under experienced barbers, and eventually took over a barbershop. However, with limited experience, the business didn’t last — but the dream didn’t end there.
Instead, Mustaqiim chose to sharpen his skills. He worked full-time as a barber, attended seminars and professional courses, and immersed himself in the craft and operations of barbershops. After more than six years of dedication and hands-on experience, he was ready.
In 2021, together with Aqilah and his best friend Izam, they co-founded Emperor Barbers, located at 740 Bedok Reservoir Road. What began as a humble barbershop quickly became a respected name in the local grooming scene.
Driven by a passion for elevating the barbering industry, Mustaqiim later launched MENSCROWN — a men’s grooming product brand — and Menscrown Barber Academy, where he has since graduated and mentored over 10 aspiring barbers as director and educator.
Fast forward to today, after four successful years with Emperor Barbers, Mustaqiim and Aqilah have taken the next step by opening Menscrown Barber Studio at Marina Country Club @ Punggol, continuing their mission to shape not just hairstyles, but futures.
